Published 28.10.2023
The oldest Arska dryer, which is still in use, is located in Jouko and Kirsi Siikonen’s farm in Tammela, Riihivalkama. This is Kirsi's home farm and it was her grandfather, Heimo Pelto-Huikko, who bought the first Arska dryer from Arvo Käkönen in 1958. A decade later Heimo bought another Arska dryer from Arvo in 1967. Back then the arable land of Heimo’s farm was 70 hectares. The capacity of the dryer is 120 hl and elevator’s capacity is 35 tons per hour. Nowadays the dryer is mostly used on drying seed grain in autumn.
