Preparing grain silos for harvest

Published 14.5.2024

Seven steps to get your grain silos ready for harvest

With these instructions, you will ensure that your grain silos are ready at the start of the season.

Do these checks on grain silos before the start of the harvest season:

1. Check the tension of the conveyor belts/chains and replace any belts that look worn. Lubricate chains

2. Clean the augers, sweep auger and silo of debris - inside and out.

3. Lubricate all bearings.

4. Check the components of the ventilation system and the functionality of the equipment

5. Ensure that service platforms, ladders, guards and drains are safe and in good condition.

6. Check and clean all control units and sensors. If any component appears to be malfunctioning, replace it.

7. If any components are damaged or worn, replace them.

During the busy harvest, you can't afford for unnecessary downtime. Make sure the silos are ready before the harvest starts!

When maintaining the condition of grain silos and their parts, always follow the safety instructions when working in or around the silo.
